Dear Mr Bellingham MP
After I got a letter from Brian Pead from HMP Norwich, I met him in the cell before and after a hearing in the Inner London Crown Court to assist him as McKenzie Friend on 29 July 2014. I read in his chronology that you met him in April this year, but you may not know that he was imprisoned on 14 May. I Cc his co-author Michael Bird who is more familiar with all details.
Brian asked me to write to you. It is very clear that he is the victim of Bexleyheath, Essex and Norfolk Police. It is also clear that he is being persecuted because of his whistleblowing of paedophilia in Lambeth Council. However, his case is one of such extreme and exceptional bullying, harassment and torture that I trust you will do your utmost, especially in the light of the National Inquiry into Organised Child Sexual Abuse.
In his book “From Hillsborough to Lambeth”, Brian quotes Flying Squad Commander John O’Connor who asserts that the pornographic industry is in the hands of the Police.
His charges are quite outrageous: while still under bail conditions, he supposedly did not tell Essex Police his whereabouts in Norfolk where Police visited him between 12 and 14 times, but did not record it in their books and eventually arrested him!
This resulted in 3 months and then he got another 2 months for ‘contempt of court’. Whilst in prison, he is also expected to defend a case for supposedly ‘impersonating a barrister’, when in reality he was acting as McKenzie Friend.
Furthermore, somebody has ensured that Brian gets moved from prison to prison (6 prisons at least) so that money, phone lists, correspondence and legal papers are never up to speed and up to date. Hence it is also virtually impossible to arrange for legal representation.
My attempts failed, too, but I shall keep trying. I attach the witness statement that I plan to submit to the Court, if I get to know the case number. We have accompanied enough prisoners to know that Litigants in Person don’t stand a chance due to horrendous prison conditions in terms of communication with the outside world.
Hence one of our aims is to get the right to LEGAL visits, but that is up to each HMP Governor individually. Could you maybe ask questions with written answers to the relevant Ministers? I am sure you’ll be aware of the rising need of McKenzie Friends due to Legal Aid cuts.
Parliament, as the highest Court, could hopefully ensure the credibility of the National Inquiry, possibly by following the example of the Royal Commission into the New South Wales Police Service? Corruption, reform and paedophilia were the topics and findings there!
Looking very much forward to hearing from you,
Yours gratefully in advance,
Sabine K McNeill
